The Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Programme Officer to be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The focus of this position is to support the GCF East Africa Coordinator in the implementation and execution of their strategic goals and objectives in order to secure a future for all three giraffe species in the region.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation is looking for a dynamic and resourceful Programme Officer to be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The position offers a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about conservation and has excellent writing and people skills. The focus of the position is to support the GCF East Africa Coordinator in the implementation and execution of our strategic goals and objectives in order to secure a future for all three giraffe species in the region.

REPORTS TO

GCF East Africa Coordinator, Dr Arthur Muneza - Nairobi, Kenya

LOCATION 

The East Africa Programme Officer will be based in the East Africa Office in Nairobi, Kenya, which coordinates giraffe conservation initiatives in the region.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  • is a Kenyan citizen. 
  • is dynamic, has excellent problem-solving skills and is used to multi-tasking. 
  • is a team-player in a diverse and remote team, who can also work independently and under 
    minimal supervision. 
  • is highly self-motivated, has excellent work-ethics, and can prioritise tasks to meet deadlines. 
  • has strong communication skills including excellent report and scientific writing skills in 
    English. 
  • is highly computer-literate (MS Office) with attention to detail and proficient in using GIS 
    software packages. 
  • has wildlife field experience and a valid driver’s license.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Coordinate field activities and giraffe surveys collaboratively with GCF partners. 
  • Collect and collate data from partners to achieve GCF’s overall goals and mission. 
  • Develop proposals for giraffe conservation field programmes collaboratively with GCF 
    partners. 
  • Prepare technical and financial reports on GCF field activities. 
  • Support the development of scientific and popular papers. 
  • Be a voice for giraffe and their plight in Africa through presentations, publications, etc. 
  • Provide updates for GCF’s social media platforms. 
  • Be flexible and resourceful in support the GCF East Africa Coordinator in any tasks they may 
    need help with.
REMUNERATION 

A competitive salary package is offered for this position depending on experience and skill level.
