Advanced Global Airborne Observatory mapping technology has enabled the access to high quality airborne imagery essential for operational monitoring of forest biodiversity and functional properties from the air. The Global Airbone Observatory also has a Spectranomics Database that contains about half of all canopy tree species on Earth, and it continues to grow. The Spectranomics Database is a critical step required to support regional and global biodiversity mapping efforts in the coming decades. The imagery collected is vast since GAO is airborne, therefore enabling the collection of iages from a bird's view and in regions where humans cannot reach e.g. deep in the Amazon forest
