About the Workshop
The DSAIL Tech4Wildlife Workshop will be held in Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in collaboration with the WILDLABS Community and Fauna & Flora on 14th and 15th September. This two-day workshop aims to demonstrate how AI can be used to aid conservation efforts.
Schedule
Day 1: Developing a Low-Cost Raspberry Pi-based Camera Trap for Wildlife Detection and Deploying Machine Learning Models on Embedded Systems.
We will build a camera trap capable of species identification at the Edge using the DSAIL-Porini dataset containing images of animal species captured in the DeKUT Wildlife Conservancy. We will work on tasks such as Image Classification and Object Detection.
Day 2: Development of a Low cost, LoRa Based River Water Level Data Acquisition System.
We will design and build a low-cost river water level data acquisition system using LoRaWAN technology. This system will be able to collect water level data and transmit it to a database for analysis.
As part of the tutorial, it is important to acknowledge GeJuSTA, a project seeking to tackle the problem of underrepresentation of women and the lack of gender analysis in STEM research.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the intersection of technology and wildlife conservation!
