Hi all, just sharing a workflow we’ve been refining over the last 15 months. We wanted to move beyond visual observations and truly quantify the ecological recovery at a construction site clearing using drone-derived digital twins.
We focused on comparing native fynbos species return vs. alien, using QGIS change-detection models to get numerical data rather than just estimations.
Key challenges we faced:
- Dealing with seasonal vegetation variance in our indices.
- Aligning 3D point clouds from different flight dates.

I've broken down the workflow from raw drone data to the final GIS analysis table. Would love to hear how others in the community are handling change detection for botanical recovery in similar environments.
