Hello everyone!
We (the Geospatial Group leadership team) want this community to be a place where everyone, experts and beginners alike, feels comfortable learning, sharing, and asking questions. Geospatial technologies are some of the most foundational tools in conservation, but they can be overwhelming! So, we are opening this discussion as a safe space for any and all questions you might have.
No question is too basic or too advanced. If it is on your mind, then it is worth asking! You might just find that others are wondering the same thing. And don't worry if it has been asked before, this is a space for learning together.
We'll also be hosting office hours / casual Q&A in November, so this is a great place to start asking questions before then.
Go ahead and ask away!

I'll get us started!
Where does everyone go to find new or cutting edge geospatial products (data, tools, etc.)?

Hi @tcsmith!
What’s the best way to get started with GIS if I’ve never used it before in the context of conservation?

Hi everyone!
@tcsmith thanks for opening up this thread.
I am an AI Engineer focusing on Ocean Conservation. I have worked with Vision so far and just started considering expanding to Geospatial AI practices for spatial planning / conservation.
I have a few questions to the community.
- Do you have any resources on studies / datasets of using Geospatial technology for the marine environment, coastal and deep sea?
- Do you know any resources / organizations or people that focus on connecting geospatial data product to conservation policy decisions?
- Could you highlight what modeling practices are commonly used in the Geospatial field? Does the community mainly use statistical modeling or do they also use AI approaches? If so, is it traditional machine learning or more recent, foundational multimodal AI? Thank you so much!
