Geospatial 2025-2026: Event Ideas and Community Needs

Hello WILDLABS Community!

The 2025-2026 Geospatial Group Leaders are brainstorming community events for the 2025-2026 year.  Some ideas we have are

  • Geospatial/AI panel
  • Office hours for building skills with GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, etc)
  • Journal clubs
  • Expert panels
  • In-person meetups

We would love to hear from you to help us plan out the year's events:

  • What type of events would you like to see?
  • What are the biggest challenges in your work right now that you think we could help solve?

Reply to this thread with events (in-person or virtual) or other activities that would be useful for you and your work.

We also have an ongoing survey on the geospatial commnity that you can take here!

Thanks for organizing this @elsa and @tcsmith .  I like the geospatial/AI panel. Particularly interesting, there would be AI that's useful for workflows/processing, e.g., agents. I would like to see more panels featuring intersting data viz in the tech for wildlife community. Also interested in a panel that could feature useful coding scripts for automating tasks, converting shp -> geoparquet, build pipelines for data processing, etc. What are Journal clubs?

In person for those in Kenya. Lots happening on the ground.

Hands on technical workshop on GeoAI, QGIS, GEE all on conservation.
