Question! A key issue faced in my research area is that it is important to know the number of pest adult moths flying around a crop or weedy area, but also how many eggs or pest larvae are in the field & vegetation.
There are many fantastic open source designs for moth trapping, however traditionally caterpillar numbers are determined through sweep netting (Pictured), bashing plants or using a beat sheet and I am unsure if there are any smart traps or technologies for this?
I feel like what is needed is two trap types, one that monitors the adult moths of a pest and one that monitors the larvae or damage, and these two traps can then "collaborate" and let you know your risk level or if control is needed.
I am looking for references, help or ideas on this!
