Open Application: High-Res Satellite Data and Analytics for Biodiversity Hotspots 

Planet's Project Centinela

Hi All! I’m incredibly excited to announce an initiative I’ve been working hard on at Planet for almost a year now: Project Centinela - our newest digital public good to make our satellite data and analytics freely available to 50 biodiversity hotspots around the world!

In the face of our global biodiversity crisis, Planet is providing our high-resolution, near-daily imagery and analytics to augment on-the-ground conservation organizations doing critical work to prevent extinctions and conserve ecosystems. 

I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with our first cohort of Project Centinela teams to help them leverage Planet data in their inspiring work, ranging from protecting endangered mountain gorillas in conflict-prone areas in Africa, to helping indigenous stewards protect the sovereignty of their territory in the Amazon. 

Starting today we’ll be opening applications for teams of conservation organizations + analytics partners to join this program! For more information on our motivating first cohort of teams and our application process, check out this link:
