TrailCam - Browser tool for preparing trail camera observations

Hi everyone,

I am developing a tool called iNat BioPoster TrailCam:

It can also be accessed from the iNat BioPoster website through the “TrailCam App” menu:

https://bioposter.pages.dev/

iNat BioPoster TrailCam is a browser-based tool for people who work with trail camera videos. The idea is to make it easier to review local videos, capture JPG screenshots, confirm date and time information, organize which videos have already been reviewed, and save a local observation package with photos and metadata.

The videos stay on the user’s computer. The tool works in the browser and only uses files selected by the user.

The app is still in development. Direct login/upload to iNaturalist is not active yet because I do not currently have the required authorization key for an iNaturalist application.

Because of this, I am also working to make the tool useful locally. Users can prepare and save observation packages on their own computer, with the idea of uploading them to iNaturalist later. I plan to request the iNaturalist application key in the near future, when I meet the requirements.

For now, I would like to share this working preview and invite people to test the interface and workflow.

I would especially appreciate feedback on:

  • - whether this workflow makes sense for trail camera users;
    - whether the local export package is useful and easy to understand;
    - whether saving date/time metadata into the JPG files is helpful for later iNaturalist upload;
    - how the tool should handle geoprivacy and sensitive locations;
    - whether the folder/subfolder review system is clear;
    - what should be improved before direct iNaturalist upload is enabled in the future.

Any suggestions, criticism, bug reports, or workflow ideas are welcome.

Thank you!
