🚨 🔔 Call for Project Ideas: Partner with Graduate Ocean Instrumentation and Technology Course!

The University of Hawai‘i - Ocean & Resources Engineering program is seeking project ideas from community groups, marine/ocean scientists, government agencies, companies, and non-governmental organizations for their next design and build challenge starting in January 2026.

We are particularly interested in project ideas where a small team of students can co-design and build a prototype to address a real need in coastal/ocean observing and monitoring.

If you have an idea (or even just a problem that might benefit from a technical solution), we'd love to hear from you. It does not need to be fully developed. Please fill out the interest form: https://pagniello-lab.github.io/OREClassProjectInterest2026.html

Last spring semester, graduate students partnered with researchers in the Department of Oceanography to create a low-cost, open-source water sampler that will be used to support post-wildfire water quality monitoring off Lahaina, Maui.

Let’s build something impactful together 🚀
