Day Two of the #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge

It's Day Two of the #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge! Let's see how you're using conservation tech with highlights from our conservation tech community so far.

Welcome to Day Two of our eighth annual #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge!

It's been another exciting day of watching photos and videos coming in from community members around the world - and just like yesterday, we're delighted to see more new faces joining the challenge, as well as people sharing multiple threads to give us a complete story about their projects. So far, we've seen marine tech, biologging gear, camera traps, drones, AI, bioacoustics tools, and more!

Explore today's entries below, and join our #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge on on Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn by using the hashtag #Tech4Wildlife now through July 28th!

Here's your round-up of today's #Tech4Wildlife Twitter highlights:

The #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge is a great time to provide an update on the Bearcam Companion (https://t.co/MjSC6lkmMJ), a web application leveraging #CitizenScience and my work with @bearid_project to identify the bears on the @exploreorg bear cams (1/7) pic.twitter.com/N7MwGSZuB7

Finally, I visited @KatmaiNPS's Brooks Falls earlier in July, where I was interviewed by @FitzIke and saw some of the bears like 151 Walker, 128 Grazer and 901 and her 3 cubs #tech4wildlife (7/7) pic.twitter.com/FdNHto7nNb

To start off my #Tech4Wildlife posts this week, I present a DIY antenna for grizzly bear tracking. Made by the brilliant and tenacious @RyderDAR . I've heard it works better than store bought antenna 📡 pic.twitter.com/iS69YEWzSd

👉Our Giant Armadillo Project 🇧🇷, through combined telemetry and camera traps, is studying the biggest and rarest of all armadillos: the giant armadillo.

CREA's Margay Project uses tech developed by the arborist community to access the rainforest canopy to install cameratraps, without it, behaviour of arboreal nocturnal mammals would remain a mystery. #Tech4Wildlife #petzlfoundation #yalecordage #dmmwales @dbtree @CocoboloNature pic.twitter.com/pZxRLcTlGb

This rolling behavior is common in #sharks, including leopards. They are rubbing their head, back, and sides on the sand, likely trying to dislodge ectoparasites, like these copepods. @PLNU @Scripps_Ocean #sharkscience #sharkweek #Tech4Wildlife (underwater video by Kenneth Merk) pic.twitter.com/7vonX29rgu

#Tech4Wildlife 🐢The project by researchers monitors tortoise movement using #SenseCAP K1100 and other sensors, gaining valuable data about their activity patterns. It can enable a comprehensive understanding of more wildlife behavior & ecosystem interactions.… pic.twitter.com/Mzwbz7cPLQ

Identifying a single species used to take 4.5 months, it now takes minutes 🐸🗓️. By applying #AI to #acoustics for #datainsights we're expediting our ability to better inform #conservation action.

Margo Supplies has been installing electric fencing for over 20 years as an effective tool in conflict mitigation. . . The technology itself is well-proven and most Western Canadian Provinces require it but landfills in many other jurisdictions remain unfenced. We combine relatively straightforward technology with specific construction techniques and bear behavior to create barriers that work. . . #tech4wildlife #wildlabs".

FADs are man-made; usually a floating structure with buoys or floats, with hanging nets to attract fish. The impact of lost or abandoned FADs are a major concern. They include ghost fishing; entanglement with marine life (particularly sharks and turtles); acting as habitat for the spread of invasive species; and washing ashore on beaches or stranding on reefs as marine litter and causing harm to sensitive habitats, such as seagrass beds and coral reefs. We recorded this photo on one of our drone surveys at a popular snorkelling beach and in an area thought to be an important shark nursery. Our survey results allowed us to hop in the water, photograph the device in detail, and evaluate the danger of the device, noting the materials and nets used. #tech4wildlife #aerialsurvey #dronesurvey #aldfg".
