Un equipo del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) de Argentina está llevando adelante la expedición “Underwater Oases of Mar Del Plata Canyon: Talud Continental IV”, en colaboración con la fundación Schmidt Ocean Institute. Se trata de un estudio sin precedentes en el cañón submarino Mar del Plata, , una región de alta biodiversidad y poco explorada del talud continental argentino en el Atlántico sur. Utilizando el vehículo operado remotamente (ROV) SuBastian, la expedición permite por primera vez observar en tiempo real los paisajes y especies que habitan en profundidades oceánicas de hasta 3.900 metros.
Este avance no solo aporta conocimiento científico valioso, sino que también abre una ventana de divulgación sin precedentes: la transmisión en vivo del recorrido del ROV ofrece a cualquier persona la posibilidad de seguir la exploración desde su casa.

A team from Argentina’s National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) is leading the expedition “Underwater Oases of Mar Del Plata Canyon: Talud Continental IV,” in collaboration with the Schmidt Ocean Institute. This unprecedented study is taking place in the Mar del Plata submarine canyon, a highly biodiverse and largely unexplored region of the Argentine shelf break in the South Atlantic. Using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) SuBastian, the expedition allows real-time observation of landscapes and species dwelling at ocean depths of up to 3,900 meters.
