ECHOSYSTEM 2027 – An International Symposium on Acoustic Ecology

ECHOSYSTEM 2027 will bring together researchers, conservation practitioners, technologists, students, and policymakers to explore the role of acoustic ecology in biodiversity monitoring, ecological research, and conservation.

Organised by the CV Raman Laboratory of Ecological Informatics, Kerala University of Digital Sciences Innovation and Technology [Digital University Kerala], and nestled in a biodiversity hotspot in Kerala, India, the symposium combines scientific exchange with immersive field experiences.

Highlights

  • Keynote and expert talks
  • Hands-on workshops and field demonstrations
  • Passive acoustic monitoring and soundscape recording
  • Acoustic data analysis and AI-assisted workflows
  • Participant presentations and discussions

When

First fortnight, February 2027 (tentative date indicated in the system)

What

Day 1 | Exploring Acoustic Ecology

  • Opening keynote
  • Workshops/technical presentations/ demonstrations
  • Evening field session: soundscape exploration and passive acoustic monitoring
  • Tutorials/ discussions (informal)

Day 2 | Sound to Science

  • Morning field session.
  • Guided sessions on emerging methods and applications.
  • Hands-on analysis of field recordings (including AI-assisted workflows).
  • Technical Presentations/ discussions.

Day 3 | Future Directions

  • Nature walk and listening experience.
  • Technical sessions - research frontiers in acoustic ecology and technology for conservation.
  • Closing reflections

The scientific programme is evolving organically.

This is an open invitation to researchers and practitioners working in acoustic ecology, bioacoustics, passive acoustic monitoring, soundscape ecology, conservation technology, environmental sensing, and related disciplines to volunteer to give a keynote, a thematic session, a workshop, or a demonstration.

Echosystem 2027 is also an opportunity for companies to introduce new products.

Join us to listen, learn, collaborate, and help shape the future of acoustic ecology.
