Join researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers from around the world for this hybrid workshop exploring the future of passive acoustic observations in the ocean. Building on the legacy of the International Quiet Ocean Experiment (IQOE), the meeting will bring together the ocean acoustics and bioacoustics communities to identify priorities for the next phase of international collaboration.
Participants will discuss how passive acoustic observations can better support scientific research, ocean monitoring, management, education, and policy, while helping advance Ocean Sound as a global Essential Ocean Variable. The workshop welcomes attendees from across marine science, engineering, industry, and policy, with participation encouraged at all career stages.
The workshop will take place from 22 to 24 September 2026 at the VLIZ InnovOcean Campus in Oostende, Belgium, with remote participation available. Plenary sessions will be livestreamed and recorded, and breakout discussions will also be accessible online. Pre-workshop sessions for remote participants will be held on 16 September to gather input from participants across different time zones.
Early-bird registration is available until 31 July 2026.
