Contract Opportunity: MoveApps App Developer (Survival Analysis)
Yukon2Yellowstone (https://y2y.net/) are seeking a developer to design, implement, and deploy an application within the MoveApps platform (Movebank) to estimate animal survival.
This role focuses on implementing established survival analysis methods in R and packaging them as a MoveApps application. Prior experience with MoveApps is helpful but not required.
Scope of Work
- Develop a MoveApps application compliant with MoveApps framework and deployment requirements
- Implement Kaplan–Meier survival estimation using existing, well-established R survival packages (e.g., survival)
- Accept standard MoveApps / Movebank inputs (e.g., deployment-based data)
- Produce MoveApps-compatible outputs (e.g., tables and plots)
- Package and deploy the application within the MoveApps platform
Required Skills
- Strong R programming skills
- Experience developing analytical workflows, functions, or R libraries
- Ability to write clear, maintainable, and reproducible code
- Comfort working in containerized or reproducible computing environments
Preferred / Advantageous Experience
- Background in biology, ecology, or wildlife science
- Experience with survival analysis or related statistical methods
- Familiarity with MoveApps, Movebank, or similar analytical platforms (advantageous but not required)
- Experience developing R packages or modular analytical tools
Deliverables
- A deployed and functional MoveApps application
- Source code compliant with MoveApps standards
- User documentation describing inputs, outputs, and assumptions
