BAM (Biodiversity Around Me) widget

I am happy to introduce and share our new project BAM, to make open biodiversity data easily accessible to everyone, everywhere!

Hello everyone,

In just a few clicks, you can now display the list of species observed around a house, village, trail, or school, anywhere in the world. This is made possible by BAM (Biodiversity Around Me) a free and open source tool developed by the Écrins and Cévennes National Parks in France, to better understand and protect local biodiversity.

How to use BAM?

BAM widget
We want to make biodiversity data easily accessible to everyone, everywhere. From natural parks and trails to schools, mountain huts, climbing sites, events, or accommodations, we hope to see the BAM widget integrated into a wide range of websites, sparking curiosity and raising awareness about nature among new audiences.

BAM is for everyone and works worldwide:

  • Local authorities: Showcase the biodiversity of your region (town halls, tourism offices, schools).
  • Media: Illustrate your articles with reliable local biodiversity data.
  • Tourism professionals: Enhance the visitor experience (guesthouses, hiking trails).
  • Individuals: Explore nature around you and raise awareness among your community.

🏆 On October 24, 2025, BAM (Biodiversity Around Me) was awarded second place in the international Ebbe Nielsen Challenge 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia, organized by GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility).
