Octophin Digital - Internship

We're looking for a paid, full-time intern to join us at Octophin Digital in Islington, London over the next six months.

Deadline: 15 August 2022 - the deadline has passed.
Islington, London - United Kingdom

This position is fully in-person, in London, in the United Kingdom. We are unable to sponsor any work visas so please do not apply if you are not based in the UK.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about software development through helping us build tools for leading conservation organisations and projects around the world.

We're a digital agency focused on the wildlife conservation sector, made up of people with a background in and passion for this work. We develop all kinds of software including interactive maps and databases, games, community sites, software for conservation technology hardware and lots more.

We've built things for wonderful organisations including:

ZSL, Fauna and Flora International, WILDLABS.NET, Birdlife International, The Conservation Leadership Programme, Arribada Initiative, The Angel Shark Project, The Chagos Conservation Trust, IUCN, Trillion Trees, IIED, TerrAdapt and others.

Aside from building great software that helps conservationists, our second aim as a company is a focus on training and mentoring, especially of people from underrepresented backgrounds.

This placement will involve a lot of work, as we'll put you straight into some difficult but hugely rewarding projects; but you'll also be guided through learning how to program in various languages (mostly Python, JavaScript and PHP) to make sure you get some great skills you can take with you wherever you go next.

It's a six month placement starting around September 2022, fully based in London with a salary pinned to the London Living Wage.

No prior experience of software development is needed, instead, the best candidates will have the patience to keep trying when things don't work and a desire to learn new things.

To apply, please send a short covering letter (no CV required) to [email protected] telling us who you are and why you'd love to do this placement. We’ll then arrange a short in person or telephone interview.

We’ll interview everyone who applies if they fit the three criteria of having a passion for conservation, a desire to learn about writing software and being able to be based in London for six months.
