WICT2022: Bridging Gaps, Shaping Women in Global Conservation.

As I sit down and reflect on my journey, I cannot help but express my hearty gratitude to the organizers of WICT Programme 2022.

As I sit down and reflect on my journey, I cannot help but express my hearty gratitude to the organizers of the WICT Programme 2022. This transformative experience has not only equipped me with valuable skills but has also allowed me to tap into the international arena and contribute meaningfully to ongoing global discussions. Thanks to the invaluable skills acquired during the programme such as proposal writing, grant writing, and pitch making, I was able to identify a niche and write a proposal for my master’s project which was successful. My research focused on the intersectionality of gender, water conservation, and governance in Rwanda. The experience was eye-opening as I closely worked with local communities, learnt about their challenges, and identified gaps for gender-inclusive solutions. The skills honed during WICT such as data analysis and community engagement, enabled me to conduct meaningful research. I applied innovative technologies and methodologies to ensure a holistic approach to my research. While leveraging on the power of networking and collaboration as trained during the program, I got an opportunity to present my findings on the critical role of gender in water conservation during the Cairo Water Week 2023. WICT has been instrumental in building my confidence and shaping me as a leader in the workspace.
As I reflect on my journey post-WICT training, I am filled with gratitude and hope for what lies ahead. Moving forward, I envision exploring further gender dynamics in biodiversity conservation and pursuing a doctorate in this field. I see myself tapping into the international sphere, inspiring other women, and working towards a more sustainable and equitable future. I am forever grateful for this opportunity provided by WICT and I am excited to continue this journey.
