25-years exper Architecture & Construction, B(Arch) + worked in New Zealand and U.K, now Technical Editor/ designer/ educator.
In 2015, I founded tech workshops for my daughter, teaching Arduino, SketchUp, Fusion 360, 3D Printing. Partnered with tutors from the AUT (Auckland University of Technology) Batchelor of Creative Technology programme (for electronics and coding expertise). Our highlights were receiving top prizes in regional, and national, science and technology competitions during 2018-2019. Workshops closed 2020/2021 due to Covid & Community centre refurbishment. Hoping to restart again in 2021.
Current projects: Building dataloggers (WILDLABS/FreakLabs) for water testing; a fixed-wing drone, teach the kids how to fly at a local model RC club; autonomous flights using Ardupilot Mission Planner; a gyrostabilised camera gimbal (Paul McWhorter lessons); learn A.I. using a Jetson Nano with the new Raspberry-Pi HQ camera (Paul McWhorter lessons); Public Lab camera hack for NIR imaging to study plant health.
My daughter (14-yrs) is keen to work in the science and environmental technologies. She designed a low-cost incubator, arduino-based, portable, for culturing E.Coli water samples (Petrifilm Method). At time of writing, the incubator was field tested for 300+ hours as part of her water testing programme in Auckland.
Our long-term goals are developing and field-testing low-cost environmental tech for Citizen Science groups, and aerial surveys similar to conservationdrones.org
