Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and the Association of Conservation for the biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) are looking for an experienced SMART expert to provide online capacity-building to ACBK staff based in Kazakhstan. This position will support FFI and ACBK’s work to counter illegal poaching of the Critically Endangered saiga antelope.
As a SMART consultant, you will provide technical support on issues with SMART Connect, the use of plugins for camera traps , field data, scripts, spatial data analysis, and more.
Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and the Association of Conservation for the biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) are looking for an experienced SMART expert to provide online capacity building to ACBK staff based in Kazakhstan. The work would support FFI and ACBK’s work to counter illegal poaching of the Critically Endangered saiga antelope.
Background: As part of FFI and ACBK’s project to combat illegal trade of saiga antelope, ACBK are supporting implementation of SMART across Kazakhstan. ACBK has over 20 staff members trained in SMART including two in-house experts who are now training government representatives across the country.
ACBK’s in-house experts have strong competencies in use of SMART and are able to (1) design and programme a SMART database with various administrative user-levels; (2) configure and install a SMART data-model for data collection with smartphones; (3) collect data with smartphones and upload data into a SMART database and (4) conduct various data analyses (producing patrol maps, calculating various patrol efforts and results).
ACBK’s two in-house experts are looking for additional technical support to help them to advance their use of SMART and address some knowledge and skill gaps. We are looking for a SMART expert who would lead and participate in a series of online calls and work collaboratively with these two ACBK staff to trouble-shoot and solve technical problems they are facing. In particular, ACBK are looking for support with:
1. SMART Connect (including server installation etc.)
2. Producing reports
3. Use of plugins for camera traps
4. Field data – Entity
5. Field data – Survey
6. Scripts in SMART
7. Spatial data analysis
Simplified Terms of Reference (to be further developed in collaboration with FFI and ACBK):
∙ Take part in introductory call with the ACBK team to discuss and explore technical support needs
∙ With ACBK, develop a simple online training plan to support improved capacity for use of agreed topics.
∙ Take part in series of skype calls to answer and address technical queries from ACBK staff. ∙ Carry out selected online trainings / presentations on topics to be agreed with ACBK. This may involve sharing screens and completion of practical exercises, to demonstrate different SMART functions to the ACBK team.
Timing: To start as soon as possible
Payment available: up to a total of $2,000 (incl taxes), with total figure to be agreed between the consultant and FFI depending on the length of the consultancy.
