Icarus stands for International Coopoeration for Animal Research Using Space. Mini-transmitters attached to a variety of animal species will send measurement data via a receiver station in space to ground stations. Data will be used to find out more about the life of animals on earth: the migratory routes they take and their living conditions; with findings aiding behavioural research, species protection and research into the paths taken in the spread of infectious diseases.
