Argos Satellite Tag Open-Source Grant

WILDLABS community member Thomas Gray from Argos has given us a preview of an upcoming grant program to develop open-source tags. Three years ago, Argos worked with the Arribada Initiative to develop an open-source developer's kit, which enables you to dive into the world of tag development. The next phase of the open-source repository starts now, and those selected will receive one Arribada developer's kit, one year of free Argos service for the kit, and five Argos chips (for prototype testing). Visit this thread on the WILDLABS forums for more information on being one of the first to submit a proposal for this exciting opportunity.

Three years ago, we worked with the Arribada Initiative to develop an open-source developer's kit. This kit enables you to dive into the world of tag development.

The next phase of the open-source repository starts now. We are looking to the community to develop these open-source tags. We will be announcing this grant program later this month in our monthly newsletter (sign up here to receive it when it's released).

The open-source repository will become a database of open-sourced Argos tags. Existing and new users will be able to access the database to see if a type of tag exists for their application, which could provide the opportunity to manufacture their own tags in-house.

The grant will cover:

• 1 Arribada developer's kit
• 1 year of free Argos service for the kit
• 5 Argos chips (for prototype testing)

We will be requiring a two-page proposal for the open-source Argos transmitter that will be developed. Within that proposal you will need to:

• explain how you will address the technical challenges
• provide an estimated timeline of completion
• include CAD drawings (or similar) fully illustrating the completed transmitter and device
• provide details regarding the funding development source(s) used for your internal expenses beyond what we will cover

You do not need to wait for the email newsletter to work on or submit a proposal.

You can reach out to me direclty if you are interested at [email protected]. I would be delighted to receive proposals sooner! You can also discuss this opportunity with me here on the WILDLABS forums

*Note: You can also purchase these kits from us instead of going the contest/grant route, if you'd prefer. Contact me for information.
