Capacity Building for Conservation Global Conference 2019

Building sufficient conservation capacity to tackle the growing environmental issues around the world will be a major challenge in the 21st century. Join the international conservation community at the fourth Capacity Building for Conservation (CBC) conference to discuss and develop effective solutions to a range of capacity building issues.

WHAT WILL THE MEETING COVER?

The conference has 5 core themes:

  • THEME 1: Strong foundations, future challenges. The role of capacity building in addressing the major environmental challenges of the 21st century. Achievements of twenty years of conservation capacity building.
  • THEME 2: Regional perspectives. A review of specific capacity issues from Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, Australasia, and Oceania.
  • THEME 3: Cross-cutting capacity visions for the future
    • Vision 1: Capacity delivered where it is most needed 
    • Vision 2: Universal capacity issues identified
    • Vision 3: The ability to evaluate our capacity building activities
    • Vision 4: Gender equality in conservation
    • Vision 5: Appropriate capacity within the next generation of conservation professionals
    • Vision 6: A global network of conservation capacity builders and donors
  • THEME 4: Donor partnerships and perspectives. A chance for donors and practitioners to exchange perspectives, expectations and innovations.
  • THEME 5: Approaches to building conservation capacity - thematic discussions. An opportunity for delegates to discuss and experience a range of capacity building tools and methods.

KEY OUTPUTS

  1. A special edition of Oryx (the International Journal of Conservation) on driving forward capacity building solutions.
  2. Real-time live streaming of conference presentations.
  3. A published series of short booklets (practical guides) providing a comprehensive review of all major capacity building methods and associated research evidence.
