The index reflects the biocomplexity of ecosystems relative to their natural state. A rating of 1 means the ecosystem is in a natural state. A rating of 0 is equivalent to a completely degraded ecosystem with no biological complexity. The closer a site is to 1, the more regenerative and resilient it is likely to be.
The index is currently in beta version and not publicly available and is currently being used by several pilot projects.
