Read moreI would recommend using QField. As with any open source software, it has its bugs, but the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives. I used it to track the locations of my camera traps in the field and collect data on the locations of ecologically relevant locations to our study system.
I worked with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, most of whom hadn't used a GIS before. Everyone was able to download the QField app and we were able to set up a working project so that the entire team can collected data while they are out doing their research. It is great for teams where members may not have access to other proprietary software.
Creating offline maps was easy as well, but caution should be taken as large basemaps can take up a lot of space and cause issues or additional bugs.

Definitely recommend, although there are currently other better geospatial field collection apps out there. QField, however, has the potential to be the best if the developers can make it easier to use and synch.
