Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), in partnership with Persimia, LLC, has developed a custom American-made drone for wildlife surveys. The BatCopter is equipped with a thermal camera and an acoustic detector and is specialized for bat detection, using advanced engineering techniques to limit noise and avoid disturbing bats. WEST has also developed AI pipelines to process the thermal video and acoustic files collected during BatCopter flights. WEST uses these data to estimate bat population species composition and establish an abundance index for a survey area. While the BatCopter is not currently available for purchase, WEST employs drone pilots through the United States and Canada.
