Seeking part-time (33%) lecturer candidates at UC Berkeley

Hello Everyone!

UC Berkeley's Fung Fellowship is looking to increase its lecturer pool for its Conservation + Tech course.  Ideally, this person would have a background in both design (or tech) and conservation.  The full job description and application is at https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF02843  However, there's a little more that should be said to help caputre the true spirit and nature of the course. For starters, the “thread” that holds all of this together is the 2019 UN-commissioned global assessment summarized here.  Per that report, we are “deep diving” into the five major drivers of biodiversity loss, namely: (1) changes in land and sea use; (2) direct exploitation of organisms; (3) climate change; (4) pollution and (5) invasive species. In addition, our students also tackle these problems through tech-based solutions via design challenges with our real-world conservation partner organizations. As an example, the outcomes of a recent design challenge are summarized in the video here. We also bring in many guest speakers and do other learning activities around all of these themes (conservation, tech, human-centered design) – so hopefully that helps paint a more accurate picture ; )

Another important thing to note is that we will more than likely be back to in-person learning next year, so this person would need to be San Francisco Bay Area based or willing to move.  In addition, this is only a part-time (33%) lecturer position.

I think that covers it, but please let me know if you have any questions.  Otherwise, if you don’t mind, please share the news with anyone you think might fit the bill!  I’m also happy to answer any questions potential candidates might have first.  Finally, we’d love to get all applications in by next week at the latest – so there is a fast approaching deadline too unfortunately.

Thanks in advance!

Dan
