Science Makers: sensor networks on 2 July

Groups

The next Science Makers event on Sat 2 July might be interesting to those here looking into sensor networks. Although none of the planned talks are related to conservation, there will be the opportunity to introduce your own project and find advice or collaborators.

We will also look at the use of sensor networks to gather data from and engage citizens. Helen Pritchard is an artist and researcher working on citizensense, a project that investigates the relationship between technologies and practices of environmental sensing and citizen engagement.

All welcome!

Science Makers: sensor networks

Science Makers is a monthly event to discuss and build low-cost, DIY and open hardware for science and education. This month we're looking at sensor networks. Hear from researchers building and using sensor networks and get hands-on in the afternoon working on building a citizensense air quality sensor. Speakers include:

* Cecilia Mascolo (University of Cambridge) on wireless sensor networks and Emotionsense, using mobile phones for experimental social psychology research

* Helene Steiner (Microsoft Research) on plants as sensor networks, connecting the artifical and the natural

* Helen Pritchard (Goldsmiths, University of London) on citizensense, a practice-based research project investigating digital sensors and environmental practice
