Polar Bear Satellite Telemetry Innovation Workshop - Redesigning Satellite Telemetry Devices for Polar Bears and Beyond

Calling marine mammal biologists and technology experts!

Do you use satellite telemetry in your research? Have you ever been frustrated by the limitations of the devices you use? Do you have ideas for improving the design, technology, usability, function, or form of wildlife tracking equipment?

If so, join the World Wildlife Fund and IDEO, an award-winning global design and innovation company, for the Satellite Telemetry Innovation and Design Workshop on Sunday, June 12 in Anchorage, Alaska. (This is the Sunday between the Polar Bear Specialist Group meeting and the International Bear Association conference, both taking place in Anchorage.)

The path to innovation begins with gathering a diverse group of experts – wildlife telemetry specialists, designers, polar bear scientists and managers, subsistence users, veterinarians, material and technology experts, etc. – into one location, to explore the problem from new perspectives, identify existing technological solutions, design and prototype appropriate equipment to deploy on polar bears, and create an action plan for developing and testing new devices.

Please share! We are particularly interested in technology experts, specifically those with knowledge of materials. Send me a message if you or someone you know would like to participate in the workshop.
