Developing small (>2g) low power proximity loggers

Hello everyone, we are working on developing low power (e.g. bluetooth) tags for rodents which send and receive individual id's when animals are within a certain distance of eachother (ie less than 50cm). Therefore tags monitor in real time interactions between individuals. We are very keen to make it open source, and we have the initial tag now developed but I was wondering if anyone else was also working on this, and would be able to share any ideas / experiences / would be interested in involveement?

The biggest challenge is the balance between tag weight / power consumption / battery size, and constructing the collars themselves as our rodents are ferocious chewers...

Any help or suggestions gratefully received!
