Consultancy opportunity with WWF-UK

Collation and cleaning of global camera-trapping data

Interested in getting hands-on experience managing massive troves of camera-trapping data? Want to engage with leaders in camera-trapping from around the world and identify globally-significant datasets? WWF-UK is offering a six-month consultancy for qualified individuals to collate and clean camera-trapping data from across our global network.

Specific responsibilities under this consultancy include:

  1. Identification of available camera-trapping datasets within WWF;
  2. Canvassing of WWF camera-trappers for global analytical priorities and summarization of their input;
  3. Securing network buy-in and co-definition and development of data sharing agreements;
  4. Set-up of server infrastructure for data management and storage;
  5. Collation and cleaning of camera-trapping data;
  6. Identification of suitable datasets for addition to the Living Planet Index;
  7. Drafting of MoUs and agreements with external partnerships.

Whilst the start date can be negotiated, we are looking for someone that can start relatively soon and devote themselves full-time to the work. Candidates must also be able to commit to weekly in-person meetings with the project manager in or near Woking. In addition, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven communication abilities, written and verbal;
  • Experience managing camera-trap databases;
  • Applied in-situ experience and academic knowledge of camera-traps;
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in wildlife research or conservation.

In addition to gaining invaluable experience managing camera-trap databases and interacting with camera trappers from around the world, the successful consultant may also be use some of the data to pursue a post-graduate degree.
