Sensors equip a range of tools to enhance monitoring capacity for conservation. Some of these technologies, like camera traps, have been essential kit for decades, while others, such as acoustic monitor systems and thermal imaging cameras, are in early stages of deployment. As with many technologies, cost and access constraints are the major challenges to the uptake of sensors to support conservation. Nevertheless, as sensors continue to evolve and become more cost-effective, their applications will be myriad.
