Audio Data Across Domains (AudioXD) Workshop

Hi Wildlabs community - I'm very excited to announce the workshop below, which I hope some of you will be interested in attending. I want to highlight that the event will definitely have strong bioacoustics representation and that there is a special "third day" of the event (supported by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation) specifically for ecologists/conservation biologists. Travel funds can be requested for attendees who need them to attend -

Call for Applications - Audio Data Across Domains (AudioXD) Workshop

We are pleased to invite you to apply to attend the first Audio Data Across Domains (AudioXD) workshop, a cross-disciplinary meeting focused on building a network of researchers involved in audio data analysis. Our goal in this workshop is to connect researchers across scientific disciplines to share methods, discuss common challenges, and form interdisciplinary teams to jointly pursue funding opportunities. This first AudioXD meeting is a collaborative effort of the Kitzes Lab at the University of Pittsburgh, the Academic Data Science Alliance, and the Berkeley Institute for Data Science. Need-based travel funds to attend the workshop are available.

When: August 1-2, 2022

Where: University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA (completely in person)

What: This cross-disciplinary in-person meeting will give professionals from all audio-related fields the opportunity to connect, share ideas, and develop collaborations. Through a combination of structured and unstructured time, we aim to (1) create new interpersonal connections between attendees and (2) identify common research themes, needs, and pain points that could form the basis for new research collaborations.

Who: The target audience for our AudioXD meeting is data scientists, including those in methods disciplines (e.g., statistics, computer science, electrical engineering) and application domains (e.g., music, biology, environmental science, engineering, linguistics, psychology, history, sociology, journalism, law) who conduct research using audio data. We specifically invite applications for early career researchers (late-stage graduate students through Assistant Professor, or equivalents outside of academia).

Please visit our website and fill out the short participant application form if you are interested in attending. We encourage participants to request travel support (airfare and hotel) if it will enable them to attend the event. Participants will be selected to span a range of career stages, disciplines, areas of expertise, and institution types.

Questions about the application or event can be directed to Sam Lapp ([email protected]).

Sincerely,

The AudioXD Organizing Committee

Justin Kitzes, University of Pittsburgh

Brian McFee, New York University

Sam Lapp, University of Pittsburgh

Is there an option to join online? I am from the UK and would really like to join if possible. Thanks Helen

Unfortunately, the event is entirely in person this year, but hopefully there will be more in the future!

Hey @Helen93 and @carlybatist (and anyone else interested to but not able to attend),

I'm probably going along and was planning on writing up some take aways - was there anything in particular you were interested in hearing about? Happy to keep my ears open and report back.

Steph
