Use of apps to monitor wildlife trade

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of mobile or computer applications which have been designed for use in wildlife marketplaces?

So far I can find:

Any other links, code or press releases are welcome!

Hi Sicily,

I did a search and found this:

https://wildlifetrade.wcs.org/WCS-Response/Mobile-App.aspx

Developed by Wildlife Conservation Society and US Department of Defence Legacy program.

But the first one on your list, which is done as part of a TRAFFIC program looks quite good and easy for anyone to use.  I'm a huge fan of Crawford and Rachel and the whole TRAFFIC and WWF team.

Good luck,

Drue

Hi Drue,

Thank you for your response. I guess I was confused since there were the emergence of Wildlife Crime Tecghnology Challenges and it seems that many programs did not make it to deployment. Any clues on this?

Many thanks,

Sicily

The Conservation Tech Directory (https://conservationtech.directory/) has some others listed! A quick search yields for example: Tank Watch, eOceans (they have a number of species-specific programs), Investeggator, Shark Trace (also a TRAFFIC program).

There is also a new tech challenge aimed at mitigating tiger/pelt trade - https://www.tigerthon.com/.

And ConservationX is working onthe NABIT currently - not a smartphone app, but a hand-held device. Hope this helps!
