A common challenge for early career conservationists is not knowing where to look for opportunities in our highly interdisciplinary field. Dr. Stephanie Schuttler recently shared this post collating some of the best job websites for wildlife biology and ecology, asking for additions from the community via Twitter. Let’s keep adding to it here with a conservation tech lens – what are your go-to career resources, and do you have any tips or info to share about using them? Comment below and we’ll update the running list!
- Texas A&M Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences Job Board
- Society for Conservation Biology Job board
- Ecolog: a listserve you sign up for to receive emails about jobs and other opportunities
- Government jobs: Federal jobs (USFWS, NPS, USGS). For government jobs at the state level (e.g. wildlife biologist at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission), you will have to likely search at that state’s government jobs website. If you visit the state agency you are interested in, it will probably take you to a redirect page. Example here for North Carolina). I was also told you can find state jobs on governmentjobs.com, but I personally have not used this site before.
- Conservation Careers: Note that there is a paywall to view most positions
- Association of Zoos and Aquariums: Heavily focused on zookeeper-type positions, however, they do have research positions too.
- Ape Alliance Job Board for ape-related opportunities
- Ornithology Exchange Job Board: Avian focus but includes a wide range of opportunities
- Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) Conservation Initiative employment opportunities
- Ecophys job board (different from Ecolog-L)
- Conservation Job Board
- Primate Info Net for primate-related opportunities
- Canopy Job Board: international opportunities in sustainable forestry, agroforestry, conservation and ecology

@Michiko Thanks a lot for the motivation and guidance.
I am looking for a job in this sector for quite sometime but have been unable to find one. Since one must keep running the house, I am working in Jacobs as a design engineer for the last 2 years.
I will try and try and try. But if u do find something do let us all eager eco-concerned Indian engineers know.
