Drone technology is developing at speed and application areas are constantly emerging. We know that for such technology to be successfully implemented, we need to appreciate the perception and potential impact for all stakeholders (not just operator/ user/ owner/ customer). Without acceptance from these stakeholders, operational efficiency is incidental. To tackle such a problem requires a multidisciplinary approach.

This work builds on existing research and is supported by expertise in the application and use of drone technology in marine environments, technology acceptance and working with socio-technical systems. The output from such work has the potential to provide impact across all of the key research priority areas of Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering (connected infrastructure, digital manufacturing, net zero and sports engineering and human factors).

We are happy to discuss specific direction of the research, within this general scope, with the successful candidate and will endeavour to support access to relevant equipment, facilities and stakeholders where possible (and the supervisors have a number of active research projects, which could support the work, such as the Made Smarter Innovation: Centre for People Led Digitalisation.
