Role Overview 

As DGB's first Geographic Information System (GIS) Application Specialist, you will have a dual role of conducting comprehensive geospatial analysis and designing, developing, and maintaining GIS applications and databases. You'll leverage your expertise to collect, analyse, and map geographic data from their projects, ensuring data accuracy within their GIS databases, and providing GIS-based data visualisations. You will also have the unique opportunity to set up remote monitoring systems and contribute to the creation of the Project Design Documentation.

Responsibilites 
  • Analyse and interpret geographic project data
  • Collect, analyse, map, and document geographic information from of projects
  • Maintain the projects’ GIS databases
  • Continuously monitor the quality of the data in the databases
  • Conduct on-site audits of the coordinates and other measurements of the supplied GIS data
  • Support in setting up remote monitoring systems for the project monitoring
  • Continuous improvement of (standardisation of) GIS processes
  • Develop and implement GIS-based data analysis and visualisations.
  • Provide technical development support with new project sourcing and participate in periodic technical monitoring meetings to evaluate the progress of the objectives
  • Support the rest of the project management team in the creation of the Project Design Documentation
  • Implement preventive, corrective and improvement actions that guarantee the accuracy of the project GIS data in the portfolio
  • Support training in projects for the local teams, ensuring that the internal capabilities of the organisation are strengthened
Eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in GIS, geography, computer science, engineering, natural sciences, or a related field
  • Proficiency in GIS software, tools, and applications, such as ArcGIS, MapInfo, and QGIS
  • Solid understanding of GIS principles, including cartography, remote sensing, and spatial analysis
  • Experience in spatial analysis and data visualisation
  • Ability to interpret and explain GIS results to non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili/Kikuyu/local dialect
  • Based in Kenya and willing to travel
  • French fluency is a plus
