Hiring: Head of Partnerships – Yale Center for Biodiversity and Global Change

Position Description

The Head of Partnerships for the Center for Biodiversity and Global Change at Yale University will oversee partner relations and drive biodiversity conservation impact on the ground. They will join a diverse team of ecologists, data scientists, and software engineers at the Map of Life (MOL.org) who map and monitor species from local to global scales to inform conservation action.

Working closely with the Managing Director, and supporting the Director, the Head of Partnerships will maintain existing partnerships spanning many sectors (e.g., national governments, international and local conservation NGOs, business, finance, academia, etc.) and actively cultivate new relationships to support science-based conservation action. We are proud of our long-term relationships with NASA, Esri, Google, the EO Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, the GEO Biodiversity Observation Network, the Max Planck Society, and the Field Museum who have facilitated many more local and regional engagements.

The Head of Partnerships will lead the Center’s activities in support of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Biodiversity Framework, and government partners in national biodiversity monitoring and planning. Similar activities support multinational corporations and financial institution's biodiversity strategies. This position will also liaise closely with various species-based scientific groups to share biodiversity information and tools and provide support to the GEO BON Species Population Working Group. Increasingly, the Center is supporting local conservation efforts in areas of high biodiversity importance around the world.

A combination of in-person and remote work can be considered.

This position will: Maintain positive relationships with diverse biodiversity organizations, ranging from large institutions to small local groups to drive conservation impact. Grow the number of partners using our science products to monitor, plan, or report on biodiversity conservation. Lead the partnership strategy and outreach to various types of organizations. Work with other members of the Center to design and implement communication and engagement material and events. Inform the Center about emerging trends, ongoing challenges, or research needs among partners and/or the wider community of practitioners. Work with the Science Communication Specialist to lead demonstrations using Center science and tools. Recruit and manage undergraduate researchers to support partner efforts. Travel to relevant events and partner meetings.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.

- Proficiency in managing multiple projects and effectively meeting simultaneous deadlines.

- Demonstrated ability in establishing positive working relationships with partners from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and educational levels. Ability to travel to remote locations to meet with partners.

- Familiarity with biodiversity conservation principles.

- Familiarity with geographic information systems or geospatial data.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skill

- Master’s Degree or PhD in ecology, conservation, or science communication

- Experience working with partners in developing countries

- Fluent in Spanish, French, or both.
