The newly established Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Biodiversity Change (ABC) Global Climate Center is seeking a Research Data Manager and Technology Coordinator to provide broad technical and software support for data products and related key NSF grant and sub-grant activities within the Center. This position actively supports research efforts of the center and contributes to the development of scientific publications. The Research Data Manager will work directly with the Center’s team members to support creating the necessary repositories for curating and sharing datasets, code, and models; standardizing data integration, preprocessing, and workflows; coordinating model deployment; and visualization of outcomes. The Research Data Manager will identify, evaluate, deploy, and maintain the necessary software and frameworks, enable and curate access to the necessary infrastructure, and provide the necessary technical tutorials for team members.  The Research Data Manager will also work with others at the Center to ensure that the Center’s public data, model, and software products are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) for the general scientific community.

Technical oversight, support, and expertise for the grant(s) is provided by The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and the sub-award partners. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. The position will report to the Center’s Program Manager and will work under the direction of the Center’s Leadership Partnership Team (LPT) and will partner, and coordinate with existing research staff at all institutions and partner organizations.

The successful candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Work with the center members to coordinate data, code, and model availability to the team.
  • Create, curate, and manage the center’s data and model sharing repositories, including a wide variety of image data sets and their associated metadata.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop best practices, conventions, and metadata standards for the center’s data and ML model products. Create necessary shared ontologies for data and metadata.
  • Train center members in relevant conventions, practices, and standards for data, model, and code sharing and archival.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure code produced and used by the team is maintained in version control repositories following applicable best practices for code and software sharing
  • Support the transition of Machine Learning models produced by the team to appropriate model commons.
  • Support creating automated workflows and pipelines for processing data and analysis.
  • Work with OSU and other universities and organizations who are members of the center to locate and utilize the necessary available computing, storage, and other relevant technical resources and infrastructure
  • Support research projects and contribute to center products and publications through data management efforts

Responsibilities:

40%: Duties - Support creating the necessary repositories for curating and sharing datasets, code, and models; standardizing data integration, preprocessing, and workflows; coordinating model deployment; and visualization of outcomes.

40% Duties: Identify, evaluate, deploy, and maintain the necessary software and frameworks, enable and curate access to the necessary infrastructure, and provide the necessary technical tutorials for team members.

15% Duties: Ensure that the center’s public data, model, and software products comply with the  Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles for the general scientific community.

5%: Duties as assigned

Work Experience Required:

  • 2 years of data science or programming experience
  • Experience in data management and analysis
  • Ability to quickly master new software
  • Strong communication skills

Work Experience Desired:

  • Familiarity with and in-depth understanding of FAIR principles and metadata standards, in particular vocabularies and ontologies for biodiversity data, data provenance, and digital media
  • Proficiency in data science stack and general frameworks
  • Experience with High Performance Computing, cloud computing platforms.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, deep learning frameworks
  • Experience with programming in data analytics and visualization frameworks, in particular in R and Python
  • Experience with biological datasets.
  • Experience with working in dynamic research environments
  • Experience with interdisciplinary projects

Education Required: ​Bachelor’s Degree – Field of Study: Computer Science, Information Sciences, Data Analytics, or a related field

Education Desired: Master’s Degree – Field of Study: Computer Science, Information Sciences, Data Analytics, or a related field

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $67,000 - $90,300. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
